Lay Missionary Movement

All baptised persons are called to mission! As modern missionary religious, the OLA Sisters live as ‘contemplatives in action’. This spirituality appeals to many lay people, helping them integrate the spiritual into the hubbub of their daily lives. We welcome men and women who wish to learn more about our history and ministry and to explore and share our ‘Cenacle Spirituality’.

The Lay Missionary Movement (LMM) provides people already involved in our missions with a climate and the conditions for better fulfilling the “missionary mandate ... which must be a commitment of all the People of God.” (Pope Benedict XVI)

The aims of the Lay Mission Movement are:

  • To unite the missionary work of the OLA Sisters with the prayers and practical support of interested lay people.
  • To bring Sisters and Laity together to share, reflect and talk about faith and the OLA mission outreach.
  • To build faith bridges and support networks.

The movement is open to:

  • All family members and friends of OLA Sisters
  • OLA co-workers
  • Former OLA Sisters and students
  • Those who have volunteered with the OLA on the missions
  • Those who are drawn to our charism and would like to share it

Partnership in the LMM / OLA Mission gives members the opportunity to:

  • Help the missions through prayer and/or financial or material support.
  • Become part of a structured prayer ministry for the missions through one of the four LMM groups which meet regularly in Rostrevor, Claremorris, Letterkenny or Cork.
  • If none of these locations suit you, why not contact the Sisters about establishing a group closer to where you are?
  • Be kept up to date on happenings on the OLA missions.
  • Support projects which assist underprivileged women and children.
  • Engage in an intercultural experience as volunteers at home or in Africa.
  • Join with the Sisters in prayer and non-violent action when possible, to promote justice, peace and care of the environment.
